Standard Chinese Course Introduction
The Standard Chinese textbook series consists of three levels, with each level divided into three volumes. Carefully structured and pedagogically sound, this series presents a complete and well-organized system of language instruction. Its content is rich and varied, incorporating cultural themes, practical vocabulary, and progressively structured grammar. Standard Chinese Grade 5
Standard Chinese Book 5, designed for 5th grade students, includes a total of 24 lessons—comprising 6 dialogue-based texts and 18 short reading passages.
- The topics covered are rich and diverse, ranging from animal stories, sports, and travel destinations to scientific knowledge, historical and cultural themes, and engaging anecdotes about famous individuals.
- The textbook features a wide range of literary forms, including fairy tales, idiom stories, fables, and poetry. This diversity of genres enhances readability and engagement, adding both variety and enjoyment to the learning experience.
Standard Chinese Book 5 requires students to master 225 commonly used characters, 351 vocabulary words, and 24 basic sentence patterns. The curriculum is designed to build strong reading, speaking, and writing skills through highly interactive classroom activities and educational games that spark interest and support active engagement in Chinese learning. In addition to language acquisition, students will develop a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture and practice speaking in standard Mandarin. The program's integrated approach not only strengthens core skills but also fosters curiosity and confidence in using Chinese in both academic and everyday contexts.

Standard Chinese Grade 6
Grade 6, Standard Chinese (Revised Edition) differs from the first edition in several key ways. The revised version introduces additional training in listening, speaking, and reading fundamentals, giving students stronger practical skills in core language areas. The writing component now includes picture-based composition and email replies, which better prepare students for real-life communication and academic writing. After-class exercises have been redesigned to align more closely with the format and skills needed for future SAT and AP exams. The lesson content itself has also been refined. It is more closely connected to students’ real-life experiences, while the passages are shorter and the difficulty level reduced. This makes the course more approachable and less overwhelming, helping students learn Chinese with greater ease and confidence.
Grade 6, Standard Chinese (Revised Edition) also sets clear requirements in foundational skills. Students are expected to master 219 characters, 420 vocabulary words, and 24 basic sentence patterns. They should be able to read the texts fluently in Mandarin and engage in dialogue with others. The curriculum continues instruction in Pinyin while also introducing skills in using a dictionary, practicing Chinese typing, and writing characters in standard form. Beyond the classroom, students are encouraged to read Chinese texts on their own and to complete all assigned exercises with care.

Standard Chinese Grade 7
基础知识方面,要求掌握 252 个常用汉字,481 个词语,24 个基本句,能用普通话熟读每课内容,并在日常生活中仿照使用。
Teaching Method:
- 授课方式除了传统的教师授课法,每课时安排一/两名学生,做"小老师"讲课。
- 学生自愿报名,到低年级班讲故事,以此来加强口头表达和交流能力。
- 课外读物《老天会爱笨小孩》,写读后感、随想、后续,或回答问题。
Test Evaluation
There are three examinations in the whole school year. The examination results are combined with the usual performance and serve as the basis for the final student awards.

Standard Chinese Grade 8
八年级《标准中文(修订版 第8册)》安排了汉语学习的许多重要内容,如汉字(笔画和笔顺)、词语、基本句和会话等,也涉及到了听话、说话、阅读和写字等四项基本技能。八年级修订版教材包括六个单元共24篇文章另有中文读本60 篇阅读文章(我们因为课时限制不使用中文读本教材)。这一册教材以短文为主,以中国历史、文化和世界历史、文化题材为基本,选取了适应实际需要和时代发展的新内容。这册教材要求学习者学会245个汉字,530个词语,24个基本句,能用普通话熟读每课的内容,并在日常生活中仿照使用。
课本中丰富了练习的形式,增加了听说训练、趣味性活动和游戏;加强了汉字教学,适当安排了字理识字、写字等内容,同时重视英语的辅助功能。涉及内容包括:
- 字词教学(听说读写,复习巩固拼音,偏旁部首,构字方式, 词性,组词)
- 基本句教学 (句式会用,关联词,造句)
- 段与篇(扩展阅读及短文训练, 200-400 字作文)
- 修辞手法 (比喻和对比说理, 拟人,夸张)
- 中国的历史、地理、文化常识渗透 (如亲情教育, 传统习俗)
- 学生思维方式素质教育

Standard Chinese Grade 9
本册教材的体裁包括散文故事、戏剧小品、宋词元曲、寓言故事、应用短文等。内容涉及中国国情、传统文化、民俗礼仪、名人轶事、语言文学、语法修辞、书信留言、广告贺卡、求职应聘等知识。对高年级学生来说,有一定的深度和广度。
Basic requirements:
学习掌握 188 个汉字,415 个词语,140 个多义词和部分句型。达到能读懂程度相当的文章,写三四百字的短文。能用汉语比较流利地交流和处理日常生活中的问题,掌握一定的中国文化知识和礼仪。
配套的《中文读本》,其内容和海外青少年学生的生活很接近,实用性可读性都很强。通过课下自读和课堂的难点交流讨论,进一步丰富和扩展课内学习内容,积累更多的语言素材,培养自学能力。
学完这本教材,学生积累了一定的文字、语法、修辞等汉语的基础知识后,在书面语的运用上应该更规范。在读写方面,通过训练和方法指导,学生的理解、概括的能力会得加强。在表达方面,力争能使用规范的口语和书面语进行交流,能清楚流畅地表达自己的见闻、思想和感情。教材中涉及到的中国文化和传统礼仪,也会潜移默化地影响学生的言行举止、接人待物和谈吐修养。
